Iâm new to crystals sorta!
I have a small collection and would like to make it bigger but one thing Iâm stuck on isâŚI canât tell the difference between real and fake crystals. When buying Iâm super confused on how to tell specially when some look super fake. I heard they are fake when theyâre like cracked or glass looking like when also super hard to tell with some⌠Ty love this app
Buy from a reputable seller who states when their crystals are man-made or man-altered to avoid purchasing a fake by mistake. Most stones are fairly difficult to replicate to a realistic appearance. So, most times it is fairly easy to tell. The stones that are most replicated or âfakedâ are stones that are rare or pricey like malachite, larimar or citrine for example. Glass can also be sold as clear quartz so look for defined bubbles within the âcrystalâ as it will suggest that it is glass. That being said, lots of crystals can have all sorts of inclusions, so an inclusion (dirt, internal fractures, discolouration, etc.) does not always constitute a crystal as a fake! If you have any more questions or if this post sparks some further questions, feel free to ask!
You will learn more as you see and touch more crystals. Itâs very rare for crystals to be faked unless itâs malachite, citrine and then larimar. For example rose quartz is pretty common so itâs barely faked there may only be low quality or mislabelled. But once you learn what those others look like it can become fairly easy, (besides citrine I still find that pretty difficult!). You could go to a Crystal shop and feel a variety of different crystals, different shapes etc to get familiar with how they feel so you can learn the difference
I am so glad someone brought this up!! I really wanted to know the answer as well. I am just starting my spiritual journey after years of uncertainty. Crystals call to me, but I want to make sure I am buying real crystals. Thatâs also why I tend to gravitate towards the raw crystals.
Iâve noticed that if itâs labeled as âauraâ, then itâs usually a real crystal that is dyed to look more vibrant and iridescent. Hope that helps some!
A good way to tell if theyâre real is to touch them- if they arenât cold thatâs an immediate red flag. Also study the patterns in the rock. If it looks planned or neat itâs probably fake. Itâs super difficult to tell a lot of the time and just takes practice, but always trust your gut. If it looks fake, it probably is.
I still donât know how to tell some crystals are fake or not, but I have found a couple trustworthy shops and get all my stuff from them. You can make some awesome connections with people and shop owners!
This is one of my fears since I am first starting out as well. Hopefully someone here can provide some insight.
I have the same problem. I heard things about a flame test and a sound test but not sure if that applies to all crystals or not.
